Arielle - "It's the city of dreamers, of storytellers, of performers and artists. It has its quirks and shadows, and of course it attracts those who come purely for what's shiny, but it really is a magical city with a whole lot of beauty and soul. I'm very inspired by this city I call home. I moved here with my parents just before I turned 14. It was a few weeks before my freshman year of high school. I had grown up in a suburb of Chicago, and change always used to be very scary for me – even when my mom sold her car I'd grown up with...I was so upset that I threatened to go with the car to its new owners. So, moving was a big challenge for me. It was also an opportunity in many ways. The move to LA broke my heart by having to leave all the friends I'd had from childhood and the home I'd always known. However, I have been a storyteller, singer and performer since I could talk and I was very excited about getting to be in a city where the movies that so inspired me were made. My parents were neeever stage parents - they were academics and though they knew I loved acting and singing, they had never let me pursue it professionally (as a child in Chicago). When we moved to LA, my mom said I could start to pursue it more if I wanted, but that it would be on me to reach out to agents and put that work in (she would drive me to auditions though!). You asked about my career and I went all the way back to childhood – oops! My brain likes to jump around. I'll fast forward to college: I went to USC, majoring in Narrative Studies with a Songwriting minor. I did my first real co-write in my first ever songwriting class (though I had been writing songs since I was a kid) and that song ended up being on my debut EP a year later ("All That Bite"). Since then, I've collaborated with lots of amazing artists here in LA, both musically and visually. I started playing shows as R E L my freshman or sophomore year of college, and have since played at so many venues around this city, including some pretty historic ones. I've also seen so many great shows here. This city has a heartbeat and a mystical energy that has certainly influenced my music, creative expression and career."
Bryn - "My husband and I moved back to LA about six months last ago after living in the Bay Area for four years and it has been the best decision I've made for my career as well as my personal life. LA feels good to me, smog notwithstanding. I think it helps to have gone to school here—coming back felt like coming home. Even outside of the film industry the energy in LA feels more focused on creativity and collaboration than any other place I've lived and every time I take an open ballet class or go to a random music event I leave feeling inspired in some way. The city is alive with opportunity. When we moved back I had reached a turning point in my career where I felt open to new situations and definitions of myself as a movement artist, in a way that I'd not felt secure to before. It was certainly scary to jump into the unknown like that...but by taking a chance and showing up to things genuinely, as the artist I am, ready to meet people I'm creatively intrigued by, I've been able to do some of the best and most unexpected work of my career so far and I'm feeling more inspired than ever. I got to perform at the Peacock Theatre in front of 7,000 people and I did my first barefoot pas de deux with another woman at Hollywood Ballet. I never would have thought those things possible a year ago. It feels like a new era."
Arielle - "EVOCAPOP is my genre of music and it is also the name of my 3-side album, and much more! I created the genre from "evocative" and "pop" - to me, pop is less about a particular set of sonic elements and more about what's current (like the way the Beatles were pop in their day). It really came about after I'd seen a blog post about my project that called my music "PBR&B". I had to look that up and the PB stands for Pabst beer, which apparently gets associated with hipsters...so essentially it translates to hipster R&B. Now, if you look up PBR&B there are some really amazing artists categorized in the genre, including Abel Tesfaye, Frank Ocean, Sza and FKA Twigs. That being said, I don't like beer and at 20 years old, I didn't like to be told what I was, so having grown up with a dad who was an inventor, among other things, I knew if I didn't like what existed, I could create something new. Not long after this, I was doing an interview and they asked my genre...I said, "evocapop, music that makes you think and feel." From there, I built the world of the story I wanted to tell with my project. I used to get on my soapbox about popular music today and how the melodies are amazing and the lyrics are lacking in heart and substance. Unsolicited, I don't go off on this too often anymore, but I do believe music holds great power, and when an artist or label has a huge platform, they could put so much good into the world, especially if their lyrics were grounded in love. Lyrics don't have to be cheesy to be grounded in love, but so much of popular music today revolves around materialism, power, sex and money as opposed to love, peace and hope. The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, Whitney Houston – their music was primarily grounded in heart. So evocapop lives in the heart space."
Bryn - "Rest and recovery is a major component of a ballet career, and I'm constantly connecting with how my body feels to ensure that I'm not at risk of injury or getting sick. This can be challenging when you're balancing multiple jobs that require physically demanding activity. I've learned to have regular yoga, stretching, and breathwork practices in my life to maintain a sense of connection with my instrument and joy in simply moving and feeling for myself in a non aesthetically-centered way. On weeknights I often stretch or roll out while watching TV with my husband and we walk to the Hollywood Farmers Market on Sundays. I love to go to Heimat several times a week to take a class and use the sauna or just decompress at the rooftop pool by myself with a book."
Arielle - "So much!! Bryn and I met at college orientation. She was the first friend I made on campus and has remained one of my best friends. We were both in an honors alternative to the regular GEs that was much more reading and writing intensive. We are two book lovers. Bryn has a brilliant mind and a big heart – huge in fact. She is so talented and humble. Not only is she a professional ballerina, but she is a very talented actor, writer and singer too. I got to see her dance in her new ballet company over the holidays :) She's so graceful and strong! Bryn and I can talk for hours about anything, and she's an amazing friend. She's always had an ear for my heartache or excitement, a shoulder for me to cry on, a big beautiful brain to brainstorm, problem-solve, laugh and play with, and a spirit to dance through life with. She cheers me on and supports me from the sidelines, side-stage and...on set! Last month, she helped with movement direction for the "Intuition" music video, which was actually our first (of hopefully many) time(s) collaborating together. Bryn, I love you!"
Bryn - "REL has been my friend for ten years and I feel that she is my soul sister. It's been inspiring to watch her discover her written voice as a songwriter and hear the evolution of her singing voice. She truly puts care into her craft and seeking out collaborators who will push her work to a new level. REL is meticulous and sensitive and it's courageous in how she shows these things in her art.
Each evolution of REL's music has felt like a true reflection of the person and the artist on her journey. Being able to show who she truly is without being afraid to explore new sounds and visual forms is so courageous and every time I receive a little voice note on my phone of something she's working on it gets me hyped.
As a friend she is truly kind and understanding and I always feel heard and loved after spending time together. This generous spirit comes across in her art: REL exudes a clear purpose to share parts of herself in order to connect to and uplift others. She even invented her own genre of Evocapop, a word which I feel captures her essence. Not to mention, her voice is pristine even in voice note form...it's incredible. Working with her on movement for the Intuition video was very special to me, she created a whole allegorical visual to bring this song to life and her acting performance gives me chills."
Elena - "My story is not dissimilar to that of many international students who come to Los Angeles to study and then remain in the USA. I landed in Los Angeles in 1997, I was immediately struck by the city's vibrant creativity and its embrace of cutting-edge technology. The rapid pace of growth, the diverse cultural artistic tapestry, and the striking formalist architecture all ignited my passion.
Living in Los Angeles has played a pivotal role in fostering my career as an artist and designer. The city's dynamic and multicultural environment provided a fertile ground for creativity and innovation, shaping my approach to technology and design in profound ways. Immersing myself in this architectural melting pot has broadened my perspective and inspired me to explore new ideas and concepts in my work. Los Angeles is a hub for creativity and artistic expression. The city's vibrant arts scene, coupled with its entrepreneurial spirit, has encouraged me to push the boundaries of traditional design and embrace experimentation.
Following the completion of my master’s degree in architecture, I established my own design practice, Atelier Manferdini – Venice, California. From the outset, the mission was clear: to champion design excellence and push the boundaries of creativity in everything we do. I believe in the power of art and design to shape culture and enhance human experience, and this drives my desire to engage in public art projects with diverse communities and push the boundaries of what's possible.
Undoubtedly, one of the most defining aspects of my experience living in Los Angeles has been teaching at SCI-Arc, an independent architecture school. Situated in the heart of downtown Los Angeles's vibrant Arts District, SCI-Arc serves as a dynamic epicenter for creativity and experimentation within the field of architecture. Since 2015, I've had the honor of assuming the role of Graduate Programs Chair at SCI-Arc, a responsibility that has deepened my commitment to shaping the future of architecture and fostering innovation within the discipline. Through my involvement with SCI-Arc, I've had the privilege of working alongside some of the brightest minds in the field, mentoring aspiring architects, and contributing to groundbreaking research and design projects. SCI-Arc's ethos of pushing boundaries and challenging conventions aligns with my own approach to design and education. The school's emphasis on creativity, experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration has profoundly influenced my teaching philosophy and has inspired me to continually explore new ideas and methodologies within the field.
Being a part of SCI-Arc's vibrant community has not only enriched my professional life but has also provided me with a platform to contribute meaningfully to the evolution of architecture. As I continue to fulfill my role as Graduate Programs Chair, I remain committed to empowering the next generation of architects and driving forward the boundaries of innovation and excellence within the field."
Marschinda - "When I was 22 I earned my degree in biochemistry at Occidental College, and aimed to become a pedodontist— but life led me on a different path. Surviving ovarian cancer at age 23 I shed my type-A tendencies, and becoming a mother 20 years later changed my world and aspirations entirely. For me, I can think of nothing more fulfilling than being a mother to my son. When he’s grown, perhaps I can make something of photography, and probably Los Angeles is a good place to start."
Elena - "As an architect and resident of Los Angeles, I find it challenging to narrow down my favorite architecture style in such a diverse and dynamic city. However, if I were to choose, I'd say that contemporary architecture holds a special place in my heart. Los Angeles is a city in constant flux, constantly evolving and embracing innovation. While it certainly has its share of historical landmarks, what truly captivates me is its capacity to push boundaries, experiment, and sometimes even fail in its pursuit of architecture.
When it comes to selecting my favorite building in Los Angeles, there's no hesitation: the Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry immediately comes to mind. This iconic structure holds a unique significance for me, as it was under construction during my formative years in Los Angeles as a student. Witnessing its evolution and eventual completion left an indelible impression on me.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall reminds me of the city's boundless potential and commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in architecture. It's not just a building; it's a testament to the enduring legacy of creativity and innovation that defines Los Angeles.
Looking at the past, I would like to mention Julia Morgan, the architect of the iconic Hearst Castle. She also made significant contributions to the architectural landscape of Los Angeles. One notable project in Los Angeles that bears Julia Morgan's architectural imprint is the Herald Examiner Building, freshly renovated by Gensler.
And how can I not mention the Schindler House? Located on King’s Road in West Hollywood, the house is an architectural masterpiece designed by pioneering architect Rudolph Schindler. Originally built as a residence for Schindler and his wife, Pauline, the Schindler House is renowned for its innovative design and forward-thinking approach to space, light, and materials. The house is characterized by its open-plan layout, and integration with the surrounding landscape, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces."
Marschinda - "Birds are fascinating; their mating behaviors, migration patterns, their intelligence, their songs. Luckily for me, I have a telephoto zoom lens that gives me a front row seat of birds being birds; parents feeding their young and fledglings taking their first flights are some of my favorite observations. This is how my foray into nature photography began. I love nature, and photography allows me to capture moments and details you wouldn’t normally see."
Elena - "Marschinda and I met through our kids: Tommaso and Bradford are 6 years old and attend the same kindergarten class at Ocean Charter.
From the very beginning, I was struck by Marschinda's kindness, grace, and generosity, qualities that radiated from her effortlessly. It was evident that she possessed a warmth and sincerity that drew people towards her.
As I got to know Marschinda better, I discovered that she was not only a devoted mother but also an organized and effective individual. Moreover, Marschinda's dedication to her son and his education serves as a source of inspiration for me. She shows me the importance of taking the time to be fully present for my own child and to actively engage with his school community.
In addition to her role as a mother, Marschinda is deeply involved in supporting the teaching of Waldorf education at Ocean Charter. Her passion for this educational philosophy is infectious, and she plays a pivotal role in rallying a community of parents who share her enthusiasm. Marschinda's commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for all children is evident in everything she does.
Marschinda reminded me of the importance of kindness, generosity, and community. Her presence in our lives has been a blessing, and I am grateful for the friendship and inspiration she continues to provide."
Marschinda - "Elena and I were new and fast friends when both of our only sons bonded in transitional kindergarten just last year. As I learn more about Elena, my admiration multiplies. I am in awe of her level of accomplishment and her endless list of accolades and achievements. When I see Elena, I see power and strength, as well as soft, pretty, and fanciful; a juxtaposition I find rare. And on top of that, she is a loving and nurturing mother, and a role model of women’s empowerment to her son. All of this together is what makes Elena amazing to me. She lives a life of passion and purpose, and she inspires me to return to my own passions, and rediscover my own creativity. She is such a woman of many strengths, I am sure she inspires me in ways I have yet to discover."
Samantha - "As a born and raised Angeleno, I am incredibly grateful and passionate about my city. I truly believe LA has influenced and shaped a lot of my interests, habits, passions, and healing journey.
After suffering from an injury in high school and managing an autoimmune issue, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of nutrition and its positive impact on my body and my mind. Having access to healthy foods has been both instrumental to my own healing journey and incredibly inspirational to my career.
LA is not a city but rather a lifestyle. It's a place that prioritizes and encourages a healthy and happy mindset, and a place where juice stores and salad shops can be found on almost every corner. It's a place where Erewhon Market is as popular a place to dine as Dan Tanas.
To be approached by an institution like Erewhon Market is a true Angeleno’s dream. Seeing my products in stores I personally frequent and enjoy has been a really wild and exciting experience.
I am constantly motivated and inspired by my neighbors on the shelves in these stores I love, as well as my neighbors in LA who are building other CPG brands that I respect and love."
Marissa - "I feel like living in Los Angeles IS my career. Growing up in the heart of the city, and into a family in entertainment and the arts, has not only inspired me, but also provided the foundation for many of the relationships I cherish in my personal and work life. Being exposed to so many different cultures and types of people and experiences has given me the ability to bring these creative elements and individuals into my projects. Los Angeles’s vital pulse, and many landscapes, serve as both a reference point and an inspiration. And I’m always grateful for the sustenance of the ocean, desert and mountains, which are as much a part of my Los Angeles as the city itself."
Samantha - "Marissa is the ultimate girl boss. Our relationship originally developed from a work relationship after we were connected through a mutual friend who knew Marissa was looking for a food vendor for an event she was producing for Parsley Health. Marissa hired me and I got to see firsthand her unbelievable work ethic, creative execution, and marketing brilliance!
Marissa executed such an incredible event and I felt so appreciative to be included in one of her productions. After that, Marissa hired me for a few more events where I continued to see her creativity shine!
Marissa is a marketing genius and production wizard. She has such unique ideas when it comes to brand building and development, and she knows how to bring her visions to life. Marissa has built an incredible business filled with brands that she truly believes in. I think that is what is so unique about Marissa; she really only takes on projects that she cares about. Her authenticity shines through in both her business and personal life.
What I love most about Marissa is how incredibly thoughtful and supportive she is. Marissa is someone who says your name in a room full of opportunities because she genuinely wants the people around her to succeed. When I had the idea of starting a healthy cookie company, Marissa was one of the first people I called. Her enthusiasm for me and support of my brand and vision really propelled me forward.
Our work relationship grew into a friendship and now Marissa is truly one of my bestest friends. I look forward to our daily calls discussing both work and life. She continues to lend her ear and shoulder no matter the topic and offers incredible ideas and solutions when I ask for feedback. Marissa shows up no matter what and I just feel so grateful to call her a business consultant and friend. I am so excited to see what this year has in store for Marissa and MCE!"
Marissa - "Sam’s one of the funniest people I know. Her ability to laugh and cherish life’s little moments always remind me of the importance of being grateful and present as a daily practice. Her career has blossomed because of her love of people, and her commitment to bring healthy and wholesome food to everyone. And watching Sam grow her business from her heart, from her true passion, is so inspiring to watch!"
Elise - "It’s been instrumental. I lived in New York for a hot sec but realized Los Angeles was calling to me and moved to California around 11 years ago. There’s no looking back, I absolutely love Los Angeles. I’m so drawn by the fact that there is no ceiling here - ANYTHING is possible and there is so much magic in that."
Shari - "L.A. is the city I moved to with no intention of staying long. But then, unrelentingly, it’s the city that showed me what I want to do for as long as I can do it. Ironically, my career actually began when I had to leave L.A. three years ago when wrapping up my writing programme. Finding work when I was about to be many, many, many miles away was odd and disorienting, and yet it happened. I was super fortunate and proven wrong that my dreams could only materialise if I was in L.A. And that’s what I’ve found to be most true: most people who are here don’t stay here because they need to, they stay because they want to. I consider that a luxury and a privilege. Moving back in March, I’ve been reconnected with that “wanting” in every person I meet. So for me, L.A. has fostered my career by way of connections, talking to and simply being around like-minded people—the problem-solvers and storytellers alike. They are who initially, all those years ago, pointed me in the right direction, and they are, now, what keep me following that yellow brick road."
Elise - "Tremendously so. It’s been a second covid for everyone in the film industry. Almost everything was shut down for much longer than anyone anticipated. But it only made us stronger, and I haven’t seen our unions support one another so fervently. And because we stuck it out, we ended up getting what we wanted. So as much as the seemingly endless uncertainty nearly wore us down, we have come out of it with a new sense of hope, passion, and optimism. I couldn’t be more proud of my union for sticking it out."
Shari - "Moving here on an O-1 visa right before the strike… Well, there’s been better timing in my life. But, it happened and we’re through.
The industry is interconnected—when one part suffers, we all suffer. The strike demonstrated the sheer strength of the Writers Guild and the undeniable power of the writer. Our work matters, our voices matter, and we got a bloody good deal because of that. This deal will help everyone—those here to stay, new writers like myself forging their paths, and those still to come. It ensures that screenwriting remains a viable and gratifying career.
And despite it being an arduous time, it was also an incredible moment to connect with other artists, to bond over what we value as people and players in this wacky town."
Elise - "Like everyone I know who has mutual friends, right when I first met Shari, I, too, was a moth to a flame. She is an absolute force and an incredible friend. I’m so inspired by her tenacity, drive, insight, loyalty, talent…. ooof. I can go on and on. I am so grateful to have her in my life."
Shari - "Becoming friends with Elise is something I can barely remember—it took place on impact, in an instant, the blink of an eye. Immediately absorbed in her caffeinated excitement for life, I had found a friend and inspiration. Her joie de vivre is mixed with an intense introspection and sometimes unshakeable frustration over the very things that make us walk, talk and behave the ways we do. (Things that keep me up at night, and yet get me out of bed every morning.) Elise looks at all things internal and external with a magnifying glass. She is shameless in her pursuits—going for anything and everything, head first. No topic could tire if Elise gets to tease away at it. Her ever-curious mind once more bringing her to say, “Wait, but what about this?” She’s always searching. And I, for one, simply do not want to be around people who have quit the hunt."
Jett - "Only in the last couple years have I begun to feel held in LA. This is partly due to letting go of my own narrative about the city, and partly to the burgeoning AAPI community I've been lucky to be a part of. It can be hard to feel truly held in a geographically spread out place, especially one that is infamous for its vanity and show business mentality. But recently I've been feeling an expanding web of supportive people who are all looking for the oft displaced feeling of, whether through creative endeavors or a simple shared meal, connection. And connection is what is ultimately at the root of my choice of career."
Roxy - "Like plants, we thrive or die in our environment. Being able to have the privilege to exist within the atmosphere of Los Angeles has allowed my creative expression to truly bloom. What I love the most is that you can always find your people here - inspirational artists are all around you, as are the spaces that can give you an opportunity to explore. Embrace and lean on the communities that this electric city offers. Say YES. It’s the first step in giving yourself permission for creative liberation."
Jett - "It's impossible to meet Roxy and not feel her incredible dynamism. She continues to challenge everyone around her to work smarter, dream bigger, and to know their worth. But I also get to witness her expansive warmth, generosity, and tenderness. Whether it's sharing stories over tea, sobbing in a movie theater together, or laughing our asses off over dongani tong, I feel really fortunate to have a friend like Roxy to grow with..!"
Roxy - "Anyone who has met Jett will agree that she’s magical. It was what drew me to her in the first place (It was years ago that started with a cringey email and her response seven months later… But that’s a story for another day). Whether she’s creating worlds with her genre-bending music, creating community, or pushing herself to learn something new… Jett is a brilliant, multi-faceted maverick. She truly is a force who inspires me and so many others."
Heather - "At the heart of it, I love Los Angeles because it has fostered a bountiful, beautiful, creative, vibrant, community-rich life -- and that has enabled a rewarding career. Emily and I moved to Los Angeles in 2015 specifically to build Botanica; neither of us had ever lived here before, nor do we have any family here. We were very thoughtful and intentional in relocating our lives to LA, and I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we feel daily gratitude for that choice! We recognized that there was really room for a business like Botanica in LA -- and we knew that we'd feel like the luckiest cooks in the world to be able to work with Southern California's produce and products. I also suspected that the rich natural landscape of LA would nurture our spirits and our perspectives in ways that our previous cities (me - New York, Emily - Chicago) hadn't. I am truly enchanted by the bounty of this city and this region. The culture, the landscape, the creative expression... It's a hugely inspiring setting for this creative, entrepreneurial adventure we've been on for the past eight years."
Emily - "Botanica – and my second career as a restaurant owner – quite literally came to life in Los Angeles. After living in the Midwest until my late 20s, I needed a serious change; this itch coincided with our plan to open a restaurant. After visiting the Silverlake farmers market in the middle of February it was abundantly clear: We needed to be here! The concept for our restaurant was all about nourishment via wholesome, vegetable-laden foods, and there’s truly no better place for that in the country than LA. Moving here in 2015 changed everything for me and for our nascent business. LA is one of the most open, creatively inspiring cities I’ve ever lived in. We’re lucky enough to have a community of like-minded (mostly female) restaurateurs to lean on and commiserate with. That community, plus the incredible support of our Silverlake neighbors (both residents and fellow business owners), has made Botanica part of the fabric of the neighborhood. There’s an awesome openness here, whether it comes to sharing intel or handypeople, or collaborating on projects. People want to create, they want to bring people together, and they want to share their art. I think LA is so special in that there’s very little sense of competitiveness, information hoarding or bullying going on. It’s a big city and there’s a lot of room for artists of all types to do their thing. There’s truly no other place besides LA where we could’ve created the community we’ve created, let alone survived COVID! For that I am very grateful. I’ll also mention that LA is such a fundamentally lovely place to live. There isn’t a lot of friction here (unless you’re commuting multiple hours a day, obviously); the weather is gorgeous for long walks and hikes, there are multiple healers available if you want to focus on self-care, and the vibes are good. People are happy here. We knew that if we were going to take on a project as insane as a restaurant that our lifestyle outside of the business needed to be balanced and spacious; LA provides that in spades."
Heather - "Emily is endlessly curious about the world and about people! She's such a connector and a listener and a learner. She's grounded and present. She really cares about people in a way that is extremely genuine. She's an active explorer; she's an exceptional resource for hikes -- and for excellent people doing inspiring things. And she is fanatically passionate about produce and cooking in a way that is always inspiring... If my creativity is lagging, a conversation with her about recipes/techniques/ingredients will always refuel it."
Emily - "From the first moment I met Heather 15 years ago (!!!) I was basically awestruck. How could someone be so composed, well-spoken, elegant, know everything about everything....and be 26?! Over the years I’ve continued to be inspired by Heather on many levels. Firstly, she has an innate sense of diplomacy. She’s able to enter into and endure a lot of discomfort and remain not only calm, but eloquent and fair. She doesn’t gossip or speak ill of others behind their backs — something that is an extremely easy trap to fall into, especially in this day and age. She works harder than almost anyone I know and is utterly devoted to the practice of being a business owner. She always wants to do better, be better, fine-tune and tweak. Plus, she’s an incredibly doting mother to two of the cutest kids you’ve ever seen. There’s literally no wasted time in her world; every moment is dedicated to improvement or caretaking. She has an uncanny ability to see the future — as in, she has a very detailed idea of exactly what she wants her life and work to look like, say, 10 years into the future. She’s incredibly pragmatic yet extremely open to alternative experiences (ask her about the time we went to see the same medium who told us we were related in a former life!). Amid all of the seriousness, strength and work ethic, there’s a silly side that kills me every time I get a peek. Heather has the capacity to laugh at herself and has a great sense of humor. We laugh as much as we scheme at Botanica. I could go on! She’s one of a kind and truly amazing, and I love watching her work and live a life of beauty."
Tommi - "Being in Los Angeles, I’ve really been able to grow as an artist. I’ve created a team of collaborators here that I feel I can really be myself the most with as an artist. Performing is my favorite thing to do in music and LA has helped me become a stronger performer over time. I’m grateful for the pause and more relaxed way of life on the west coast because being from the east coast, it’s not in my nature!"
Carol - "Los Angeles is home to the most famous actors in the world along with award shows, premieres, photo shoots and parties! As an LA based makeup artist, Hollywood kept me booked solid doing celebrities makeup for photo shoots and red carpet events."
Tommi - "Not only is Carol a legend in the industry, she’s also someone I look up to as an artist and businesswoman. She’s a go getter and has worked hard to get to where she is in life and that really inspires me to continue going towards my dreams. She shows me it’s possible and it’s possible to do it in a graceful and beautiful way. Two words I’d use to describe her."
Carol - "I was drawn to Tommi the first time I met her! I was intrigued by her beauty, talent, creativity and kind nature. Tommi brings vitality, fun, joy, creativity, music and lots love into my life!"
Charlotte - "Living in Los Angeles has been quintessential for my career, and working with Lauren in Vancouver was a beautiful part of what pushed me back here. I was on the fence about if I had what it takes to model in Los Angeles and being behind her lense showed me what I was capable of. Having both a brand and modeling career is a challenge to manage time wise, but with access to the endless resources Los Angeles has to offer it is somehow all made possible. I don't think I'd be able to do all of this if I lived anywhere else."
Lauren - "As a Canadian residing in Vancouver, BC for most of my life, LA has opened up new opportunities for me. The industry in Los Angeles is so diverse. Since working here I've become very interested in small brands that have eccentric and quirky vibes. It's exciting to constantly meet and get to know new people on set. It's very inspiring from that perspective. There's also the unique environment of palm trees, TV billboards on every street and the ever-eclectic styles and personalities that make up LA. These experiential differences have definitely influenced a shift in the kind of work I'm producing now."
Charlotte - "What inspires me about Lauren, so many things. We have a ten year age gap between the two of us but it doesn't feel like it most of the time. Without trying she inspires me every day. She is a reminder that I have a very long life ahead of me and not to get caught up in the small things. She allows me to voice any thought or feeling completely unfiltered and provides incredible guidance and insight when I need it. Her whimsical energy when behind the camera opens my heart and mind to be more expansive when we create together. She trusts my visions, which also inspires me to trust myself. She is a true collaborator."
Lauren - "Charlotte's energy is like none other. She is always the person with the most presence, who is the most down to do anything with 120% ooomph! Of course, this translates into making pictures together. Charlotte and I started shooting together in 2019 when we worked in the same studio in Vancouver, Canada and have been adventuring and creating alongside each other ever since. She and I are very aligned in how we want to create images and we usually know what the other person is going for without having to explain ourselves. Outside of taking photos, I'm inspired by her drive to express a unique vision through her brand - Charlie Beads, which I've watched evolve so beautifully over the past 4 years. In many ways, I feel like we're siblings, especially now living and creating together in our Beachwood Canyon home. I couldn't be a prouder big sis."
Mari - "Los Angeles’ creative landscape is endless. It’s a breeding ground for artists, musicians, chefs, fashion designers – people doing incredible things. When you’re surrounded by so much talent, you can’t help but be inspired. Connecting with creatives who have cool jobs, fascinating life stories, and standout talents is exceptionally rewarding. As a writer and journalist, nothing brings me more joy than sharing their stories."
Lika - "Los Angeles is full of incredible people, especially in the culinary world. There are so many opportunities to work with talented and creative people in the restaurant industry. I'm grateful to get a chance to connect and get inspired by them."
Mari - "Lika and I are both from The Republic of Georgia – a little country in Europe known for its ancient winemaking traditions, incredible cultural heritage, and absolutely delicious food. When we first met, we instantly connected over cooking and storytelling. Although Lika only recently moved to Los Angeles and just started getting her feet wet in food styling and photography, it feels as though she’s been doing this forever! I’m always in awe of her impeccable style and eye for detail. She knows how to create the most delicious recipes and capture them in a way that makes your mouth water!"
Lika - "Mari and I are from the same country, The Republic of Georgia. We first met on Instagram, and after I moved to Los Angeles, we decided to meet in person! Mari has an amazing sense of style. I love how she creates every single look. We also both love food, and every time we meet, we try to find a new restaurant and menu to explore. It’s hard to find a good friend, but I think I found one. I appreciate her kindness and honesty!"

Helen - "I didn't grow up in LA, but I find myself gravitating toward this city because of the creative energy and the people that this place brings together. Despite my day job being very quant-focused, being in LA encourages me to renew my creative capacity and explore avenues and hobbies that may have previously felt too daunting to pursue. In many ways, the city and its creative community have made me feel accepted for my quirks and contributed to a sense of balance in other domains of my life."
Tiffany - "This city has served as the perfect backdrop for me to pursue my lifelong aspirations in the film and television industry. Through the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of Los Angeles, I have been able to immerse myself in the industry, network with like-minded professionals, and stay at the forefront of emerging trends and advancements."
Helen - "I have known Tiffany for about 10 years now, and something I love about our friendship is that the essence of it has remained very much the same over time. Despite the changes we have both experienced in the past decade, with me constantly moving from state to state, the dynamic of our relationship has not changed. There is a sense of goofiness and lightness in the way we interact that brings out the inner child in both of us, and it is what makes our friendship so special. Her ability to deeply care for others (myself included) is truly inspiring, and I will always appreciate her unwavering support for all my decisions, even if some might be questionable."
Tiffany - "Helen and I share a remarkable friendship that has flourished over the course of nearly a decade. She constantly reminds me that life is not solely defined by our professional endeavors, but rather by the richness and diversity of experiences we cultivate. Her ability to find joy in the simplest of moments and to seize opportunities for adventure has always inspired me and broadened my perspective. I am grateful for the countless unconventional adventures we shared as friends and each experience has not only created cherished memories, but they have also served as a catalyst for my personal growth."

Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Amanda - "Living in Los Angeles provides a network unparalleled by little to no other cities globally in terms of the network it offers in entertainment and fashion. My interests have always been strongly centered on the intersection of the two and how they influence one another. I feel so lucky to have the relationships I've been able to build over the last almost ten years, I will be celebrating my 10 year anniversary living in LA this June, which I hear is the first official mark of becoming a real Angeleno!"
Priya - "I moved to LA in 2006 while I was finishing up my last year of college. I immediately felt connected to this city – the good and the bad. It's important to learn and know LA outside of the “business”. It keeps you in love with the city. This city has been so impactful and warm to me. The escapability to the coast – the closeness to the mountains. Some of the best authors and artists have come to California to thrive. I feel so deeply connected and invigorated by this city."
Amanda - "Priya's business prowess, kindness, intelligence and community instincts are unmatched. I distinctly remember how seen, heard and protected I felt after our first serious conversation regarding some work logistics on our first press tour together back in 2019. There is a major disconnect between the studios, streaming services and freelance artists which creates a shortage of funds, leaving a lot of small business owners grossly underpaid and undervalued and yet, we are still held to a standard of excellence that is just not being compensated for. Priya advocated for me like no one else had done before. I will always have the utmost respect and admiration for her due to that in addition to the example with which she has led as our working relationship and personal friendship has developed ever since. It's a breath of fresh air and true feeling of relief to know that I can seek many aspects of mentorship from her."
Priya - "Amanda is one of the warmest women I know. Watching her flourish over the last few years has been so remarkable. She puts her all into what she does – but most importantly reminds those around her to keep their cup full. She’s inquisitive, creative, and warm. She is open and collaborative. I think the idea of collaboration in both management and styling is so darn important. These are artists that have thoughts, creative feelings and want partnership with guidance. I think the balance of both injecting your own creativity while being open to someone else’s is VERY nuanced and hard to find balance – Amanda has just that. It’s a joy to work with her."
Look 1: Jasmine and Tatyana are wearing our Paradisi Dress.
Look 2: Jasmine is wearing our Sunne Dress and Tatyana is wearing our Paloma Dress and Silk Scarf.
Jasmine Rutledge is a model and photographer originally from Orlando, Florida. She started her modeling career at the young age of 16 and quickly began traveling the world for various modeling gigs, working with top brands, magazines and photographers.
After a decade of modeling, Jasmine decided to pursue her passion for photography while living in Los Angeles. She’s currently a student at ArtCenter College of Design, focusing on building her career behind the camera. With her experience as a model, she has a unique perspective when it comes to capturing the perfect moment.
Jasmine is a true artist at heart and is constantly pushing herself to take her photography to new heights. She is always experimenting with new techniques and styles, and her work continues to evolve and impress. Her goal is to use her photography to tell stories and capture the beauty of the world around us.
Tatyana Cooper was born in Jacksonville Florida and moved to NYC after high school to pursue a modeling career. Throughout her decade in the big apple she learned a lot about herself and her passions for art. Outside of modeling she discovered a love of music and began Djing under the moniker, Afrodite. She also reconnected with her first love: Photography. After buying her first real camera because she lost a bet a with an ex-boyfriend, she’s been exploring the world behind the lens ever since. Recently she moved to LA to dive deeper into her multi-hyphenated creative lifestyle and of course for the sunny winters.
Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Jasmine - "Los Angeles has played a huge role in my career. I moved here from NYC about 5 years ago (so crazy it’s been that long!!) thinking I’d stick with modeling and move back to NY, but I’m so grateful that didn’t happen as I’m pursuing another career path that I really enjoy and can use my voice how I want. I feel grateful for LA."
Tatyana - "Living in LA has fostered my career in so many ways in such a short time. Ive only been here for a year now but it’s been a great opportunity to reinvent myself and how the world sees me. Allowing my art to speak for me has been a big shift. After modeling for so long you tend to lose your voice and become nothing more than a pretty face. But LA has given me a chance to relax and expand and think about what I really want out of life. I love creating whether it’s a photoshoot, a DJ set, a music video for a friend, anything! Any way I can express myself I’m down. LA is full of artists that just want to create for the sake of creation and theres a lot less pressure to be in a rat race here, there’s more freedom."
Jasmine - "Taty is so fun and her energy is felt by everyone. Whenever I’m shooting on set she’s the one hyping up the energy and keeping everything light and I can’t thank her enough for being her. LOVE YOU!"
Tatyana - "Ever since I meant Jasmine I’ve always loved how she existed in her own world. She always has a carefree vibe and follows her own path that she’s carves out as she goes. Which is very inspiring! Her drive to constantly be creating something is also inspiring; she’s very self motivated despite her laidback exterior. She pushes herself and those around her to exit the comfort zone and believe in themselves. You have no choice but to follow your dreams if you’re her friend. I love that she’s not afraid to fail so she’s always trying something new, which is something I think we both do. We’re not afraid to take risks even if we look silly or a little chaotic. She lives her life authentically which makes her photography and art especially unique. Im very proud of her and excited to see where her journey goes from here."

Look 2: Sylvie is wearing our Silas Corset and Paradisi Skirt and Porsche is wearing our Mesh Paloma Dress.
Sylvie is a multi-hyphenate creative and model from NY who is currently based in LA. With her family living in Haiti, her favorite way to connect with her roots is through cooking and painting.
Porsche Little is a Los Angeles based Diviner that specializes in Tarot. Through ancestral veneration, she was able to make a name for herself at the start of the pandemic by offering spiritual assistance.
Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Sylvie - "I moved to LA from NY in the early part of the pandemic. I had been modeling for a year already and wanted to make the move before I could get boxed In. It was important to me to be able to be bicoastal and work in both markets.
Living in LA has introduced me to an incredible community of people who have helped to elevate me and have brought me opportunities to work all around the world and has also provided a homebase that brings a perfect balance to my lifestyle with the ability to work in a city where I can still find nature and relaxation driving for 20 minutes in any direction."
Porsche - "Los Angeles has given me that balance that I’ve needed. NYC was really good for my spirit but being from the east coast, I feel like I’ve always navigated like I was on the run. In La, I’ve found myself moving at a healthy pace and within that slowness I have been able to focus on my gifts and share them with other like-minded individuals."
Sylvie - "Porsche is one of the most genuine and sweetest people I’ve ever met. I moved here shortly after she did. She inspired me to take a chance and move away from my home state for the first time in my life and welcomed me into her community of friends with open arms.
Porsche always inspires me to act in my highest self and to always demand the best from everything. I think the fact that we have so many similar astrological placements, we often act as a mirror for each other. Talking to her is like talking to myself."
Porsche - "I’m inspired by Sylvie’s essence and her ability to unapologetically be herself. Sylvie is someone that walks into a room and can literally lift the energy just by smiling at someone. There’s something about her that’s very warm and I always find myself feeling the safest around her and the least judged."

Rachel Ly is a poet, actress, and model who has made Los Angeles her home. She is of Vietnamese and Israeli-Moroccan descent. Her alter ego is a librarian, and she likes to stand out in the subtlest ways possible. She grew up the middle child in a small town in Northern Minnesota before moving to Florida for college, where she studied literature. She continues to find the beauty of people, their human relationships, & fleetingness of memory the most profound thing to convey in her work, and couldn't be happier to be on this path.
Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Rachel - "When people ask if I like living in Los Angeles, I have to say it has been good to me. I always had a feeling about this place. One of the reasons they call it la la land is because it’s so easy to dream about. I was working 3 jobs my first few months out here, and I distinctly remember thinking that moving here mid-pandemic with little to fall back on was putting all my bets on myself. LA teaches me risk and relaxation. I earnestly feel that this city is full of blessings (as well as traps); the more you work on yourself deep in the core, the more doors you will see open. It’s like a magic trick."
Anise - "I actually grew up in Los Angeles and really wanted to "Get Out" for most of my adolescence. I moved everywhere- Pretty much the furthest you could go- And ended up back in LA during the Pandemic to stay with family. But it was only here that I truly grew as an artist. I found the best group of friends and a supportive community. I didn't really have that in any other place except maybe New York, but New York... Is a very hard place for flowers to bloom."
Rachel - "Anise inspires me with her grace. There’s a certain charm of weird girl I think we would have both been in high school. She’s a fellow daydreamer with grounded souls on her feet. As I’ve grown to know Anise, I can spot a strength in her that’s both gentle and unbendable. She’s also the queen of hosting and dresses like a ballerina with a knife up her skirt."
Anise - "Rachel has an effortlessness about her, but always makes you laugh by being pretty transparent on the reality; She's extremely reflective. Rachel is very honest and I love that she puts herself into her writing. She is talented & well-read: I feel like an intellectual being around her! Rachel is an incredible friend, and I value her so much- She is like a sister to me."

Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Aisha - "Living in Los Angeles put the stamp on my career from building relationships throughout the entertainment industry and being able to sustain a lifestyle off my creativity. I came to Los Angeles with no connections and no friends which forced me to get out of my comfort zone and make it happen!"
Vika - "Living in Los Angeles has given me a beautiful opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded, creative, and passionate artists who love to collaborate, create and experiment. I am constantly inspired by those around me and grateful to continue connecting and supporting each other's growth, as is the case with Aisha and me."
Aisha - "Vika pushes my creativity and still sparks my interest in styling. I have been creative directing more than styling as I began falling out of love with my passion, but Vika always pushes that creativity and forces me to think outside the box. We both push each other and are honest with each other, which allows us to make impactful and flawless work. "
Vika - "Aisha and I share a unique ability to understand each other's creative vision as if it were second nature. Our collaboration is a seamless process, where we frequently exchange ideas and inspiration that the other was about to share. Aisha's unwavering confidence in her work pushes her to fearlessly experiment with new concepts, motivating and inspiring me to do the same. Every time we collaborate, we challenge each other to push boundaries, making it difficult for us to create a mood board for our shoots as we strive to create something entirely new."

Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Stella - "Growing up in LA and being surrounded by creative people in every possible field is something I’m so grateful for. As someone who is interested in so many different facets of the creative world, it took me a while to figure out exactly what path I wanted to go down. But LA is the perfect place to explore multiple interests because of how much you can be exposed to, the people you can connect with, and the art and culture that exists in the city."
Colette - "Growing up in LA means you are surrounded by creative energy. It’s the undercurrent everywhere you go whether you realize it or not. This is inspiring for some, overwhelming for others. I’ve experienced it as both - and have gone through years of holding myself back for fear of not shaping up. But once that feeling subsided - or more accurately, once I realized it was baseless - the city transformed into a treasure trove of ignition, and I realized that all I ever needed was right in front of me."
Stella - "Colette is one of my oldest, most special friends. We bonded over the Twilight books when we met at summer camp at eleven years old and she has continued to be someone in my life that I consistently have a fun and collaborative relationship with. I go to her for advice, both creative and personal because I trust her opinion so deeply. She has an ability to make people feel seen and heard. She is someone who lights up a room, she’s filled with energy, and her unique and deep relationship to spirituality is something I constantly look to for inspiration. I admire her ability to connect with people easily and with so much curiosity and joy. She is one of a kind."
Colette - "I’ve known Stella for more than 12 years, and through all that her essence has remained the same. She’s cultivated her creativity in a completely authentic and personal way. I’m inspired by her talent and ambition, but moreso by the way she brings herself into any room. And into any project. Her style calls out to you in everything she creates - whether it’s a scent, a film, or the walls in her apartment. it’s been so beautiful to see it grow and evolve."

Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Lauren - "LA has fostered my career thanks to all of the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with. There’s so much talent and coolness it can be intimidating at first, but ultimately inspiring. Plus of course, being a photographer/director, it’s hard to beat the shoot locations in the area. Natural landscapes have always been a huge part of my work so when I moved to LA from NYC I was in awe of the beauty of southern Cali. It definitely shaped my style."
Jen - "When I moved to LA, I went straight into show business, but I also unexpectedly fell in love with bike racing. Juggling a career in TV and being a pro bike racer fed my fantasy of getting a female sports show made. Flash forward to my current project - a series I created called California Girls, an ensemble scripted comedy about women trying to go pro in bike racing. It's set to release this summer, it's gunna be great!"
Q: What inspires you about each other?
Lauren - "Jen is an all-around talent that I’ve always looked up to since we were kids. She is constantly kicking ass in male-dominated fields such as cycling and writing/producing. When we have the opportunity to work together it’s super special. And she is one of the funniest people on earth, a person you can be a complete weirdo with. I’m very proud to be her cuz."
Jen - "Lauren is a remarkable photographer. Over the last decade, I've witnessed her define her style and build her empire and it's been so inspiring. I feel so lucky to be related to her. I look at her sometimes and think "wow, this sought after photographer is the same person I went to Disney World with as a kid." I get to brag about her and meet her at Walt's for a brew. It's a really special familial relationship. The kind where she informs you on a family camping trip that she's going to take tasteful nudes of everyone and you just oblige because you trust she's going to make great art."
Look 1: Maya and Lorna are wearing our Mimi Cardi.
Maya Fuhr is a Canadian Los Angeles-based artist whose practice explores various facets of the art, fashion, and design worlds. With a focus on sculpture, installation and photography. Fuhr’s dream-like aesthetic illuminates any chosen object’s lived history and a sense of authenticity in her subjects — fraught with contradictions of fetishism, exclusion, opulence, exploitation, and voyeurism. Fuhr’s work has been exhibited internationally in London, Paris, New York, Tel Aviv, and Toronto. In 2017, she was acknowledged for The Magenta Foundation Photography Project Award, enabling her to continue her series Malleable Privilege, a timely inward-looking investigation into the artist’s relationship with fashion and its impact on the environment. In 2023 she had her first U.S solo exhibition Compersion at Sade Gallery.
Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Maya - "I've only lived here two years, but the sunlight and weather makes a difference because it enables me to work on art outside and in my garage. There's space to grow, literally + figuratively."
Q: What inspires you about your mom?
Maya - "My mom is open hearted, creative and adventurous. She notices details and points out things in environments that has me be present and also has taught me to engage with the world in a fresh, observant way.
My exhibition is called Compersion, and she arrived in L.A to visit me the other day and pulled out a t shirt she had designed that said the Buddhist definition of the term. I didn't know she had made that, nor had we talked about compersion together, but she definitely brought me up teaching me to be happy for others and motivated a sense of peace and unity that is inherently a part of me and the conversations that are created through my artwork."
Q: Why did you choose to go into a creative line of work? How has your work nurtured you?
Lorna - "What inspired me to become creative were people that I have felt drawn to my whole life. They are usually people who are able to express themselves freely and in a way that is enriching. There is so much beauty and pleasure to be had in this life if we participate in creating it. One of my particular influences is the family of one of my oldest and dearest friends who has five siblings, all of whom are artists is their own right and prospering.
Being a witness to their accomplishments has taught me a lot which of course has filtered down to my interactions with my children."
Q: What inspires you about Maya?
Lorna - "What inspires me about Maya is her sheer determination and energy for her work. She is motivated and on fire as well as being organized and conscientious. Her non-profit society, which she founded, is particularly impressive. I feel very proud of her.
It has been good for my growth to not let my personal opinions and preferences colour my perception of Maya’s work which often pushes the limits of mainstream propriety. I have confidence that her expression is a contribution. I am particularly inspired by her ability to draw a huge variety of people who are mutually supportive into her circle of activity.
I have met so many interesting people because she’s my daughter."

Q: How has living in Los Angeles fostered your career?
Carlson - "Living in Los Angeles has inherently fostered my career by the nature of what I do. Everything for me, work wise, exists primarily in Los Angeles - so it's both very convenient and invaluable to be surrounded by such a diverse group of artists from around the world. And it's an incredibly competitive environment whether you realize it or not - in many ways, it's sink or swim. And I had to figure out how to swim. It took many years. Braving Los Angeles, I think, makes you resilient in the end, which is really necessary generally and in my work."
Drew - "Living in Los Angeles has been instrumental in shaping my career in more ways than one. It has opened doors to numerous opportunities and provided me with a wealth of experiences that I wouldn't have found elsewhere. One of these experiences includes working on shoots such as the one with RABÔT, where I get to spend a day with inspiring and talented creatives and showcase their gorgeous sustainable luxury clothing.
One of the things that I admire most about this city is the chaotic creative space it offers. Despite its frenzied pace, I've always been emboldened to take risks and put myself out there, thereby creating a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of their respective art forms.
Another aspect of living in Los Angeles that I find inspiring is the young and entrepreneurial mindset of many people here. The city's diversity offers access to a broad range of perspectives that are both enlightening and beautiful. This is something that people from smaller cities may not have the opportunity to experience.
I draw inspiration from my surroundings, be it the stickers and gum on a trash can, the billboards lining Sunset Boulevard, or the graffiti beneath a freeway exit. The diverse neighborhoods in Los Angeles allow me to tap into nature's serenity while at the same time experiencing the excitement of award shows, street filming, fun pop-up shops, and curated creative events. While the fast-paced culture of Los Angeles can be overwhelming and exhausting at times, it has also helped me forge some of my most meaningful collaborations and develop into the creator I am today."
Q: What inspires you about each other?
Carlson - "Drew inspires me deeply just as a human - we have a really unique relationship, I can be my most vulnerable self around her which has been incredibly healing. She is so kind, hilarious, and full of life. I'm so inspired by her ability to filter her worldview into a succinct visual language, and the creative tools she has under her belt as a graphic designer are really impressive to me - from her animation to her ability to execute on so many different design styles and aesthetics. I think she has such a strong visual identity, and I admire that. But overall I just love watching Drew grow as an artist and as a person. I'll always want a front seat to that show!"
Drew - "There are so many things about Carlson that inspire me, but above all, it's her talented, curious, and creative mind that I find truly remarkable. I often marvel at her ability to visualize and create new worlds, something that is unique to her and cannot be taught.
One of the most inspiring things about Carlson is how she got to where she is today. She took her future into her own hands at a young age and wrote a letter, sending it all the way from Texas to LA with a headshot because she wanted to be an actress. This level of initiative and determination speaks volumes about the woman she has become and her dedication to pushing industry boundaries and enhancing the value of the film industry.
What also impresses me about Carlson is her ability to push through obstacles, whether it's being a kick-ass director in a primarily male-dominated industry or creating, directing, and acting in her first film during a global pandemic. She approaches each challenge with resilience and executes perfectly.
Despite juggling numerous projects at once, Carlson handles everything with grace and still manages to provide support for those around her. I'm inspired by her diverse skill set and portfolio, from developing products for her Beauty Clean company to acting, directing, and writing. Rather than getting lost in the mix, she is intentional about each project she takes on.
At her age, Carlson has already accomplished so much, yet she remains grounded and humble in all that she does. Her unwavering dedication to her craft and her ability to inspire those around her are just a few of the things that make her such an inspiring individual, and one of the women I look up to the most in this world."

Brianne - My name is Brianne Tju. I’m an Asian-American actress, born and raised in California. My parents are immigrants from Indonesia. I’m half Indonesian and half Chinese.
Some of my projects include Three Months, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and most recently Amazon Freevee’s High School. You can see me in Netflix’s Uglies next year.
I love my family and friends, writing, going to the movies, knitting, traveling, riding bikes, playing tennis, and drinking extra dirty Tito’s martinis. I’m in a constant pursuit of growing, learning, and finding balance and happiness.
Haley - My name is Haley Tju and I’m an artist currently residing in Los Angeles, California. I started my creative career at the young age of four pursuing acting alongside my sister, Brianne Tju. During that period, I had the opportunity to play a plethora of different roles, and learn a lot about the industry and myself. However, after almost 16 years onscreen, I decided to switch gears and work more behind the scenes. I’m now following my passion for fashion and pursuing a career in styling and creative directing. Taking a break from acting, has definitely allowed me to try new things and satisfy different parts of myself creatively. I’m in love with what I do now and I hope to keep doing it for as long as I can or until I find my next calling.
Q: What inspires you about each other?
Brianne - "My sister, Haley, is a constant source of inspiration for me. Whether it be her artistry and craft or her resilience and willingness to put herself out there. She’s the coolest, funniest, and most talented person I know. Getting to work with her as my stylist is a dream. She is so good at making you feel like the best version of yourself while also stretching the boundaries and making you feel comfortable to experiment."
Haley - "Where do I even start. My sister is one of the most passionate and hardworking people I know. When times get rough, I see her determination to push through and get things done. She’s also an extremely loving and patient person and that duality within her is something I definitely look up to. She’s works hard for what she wants but she does it with kindness and love."
Q: How have you been uplifted by each other?
Brianne - "Haley has seen me through most stages of my life and she doesn’t judge me. She has always been a bright light that soothes my anxieties and pushes me to be the best version of myself. Her creativity inspires me. She may be my sister but she is also my best friend and icon."
Haley - "Brianne uplifts me everyday whether we see each other or not. We are always confiding in one another and supporting each other’s endeavors. At the end of the day, we are always there for each other and the fact that I have a sister like that uplifts me and makes me want to uplift others."
Lena is wearing our Mitra Top, Valentine Pant and Serene Dress and Julie is wearing our Sur Top, Sola Tank, Paradisi Skirt and Dolores Pant.
Lena - Lena Daly holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a MFA from The University of Southern California. She has participated in exhibitions at Various Small Fires, Los Angeles, CA; the Film Sector of Art Basel Miami Beach; Aupuni Space, Honolulu, Hawaii; Balice Hertling, Paris, FR; Romer Young Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Compound Yucca Valley, and Harkawick Gallery, Los Angeles. She recently worked on projects with Meow Wolf, Las Vegas and The Getty Museum. She is working with plasma lights and glass casting. Her work limns the vibratory thresholds of the visual and subsonic realms, braiding their intersections into synesthetic contaminations. Daly currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Julie - Julie was born in the US and raised in Poland. She now lives in Los Angeles. She's an artist. She mainly works with photography. She really loves the ocean.
Q: What inspires you about each other?
Lena - "Julie can shred. She can surf and skate. She came from Poland to California and immediately learned how to surf. She landed a job at the legendary surf shop, TK's Frog House in Newport Beach. Even today if you walk into that surf shop with Julie, they all still know her and will get you set up with some wetsuits and boards to catch a few fun ones across the street. I see her creativity come out when describing waves. She taught me about each surfbreak's wave behavior. Every few blocks she knows the kind of waves all down the coast. Her bold, adventurous side comes out when exploring her surroundings. I've watched her pull over to bomb nicely sloped hills in Vegas parking lots. She's fearless. Or you can catch her behind a camera, going into unknown zones, her images taking us all along with her. I always think of her like the tour guide in Stalker, from the Soviet era film who takes people seeking inspiration to a mysterious restricted site known as The Zone, where supposedly a field exists which grants a person's innermost desires. I love that she finds and documents new ways of moving smoothly through the landscape."
Julie - "It’s hard not to say everything. Lena is one of the most magical people I’ve met. She glows and brings glow into my life. And I mean that not only metaphorically but literally (hint: look up her work). Her deep curiosity and passion for things she is interested in inspire me. We share a deep love for the ocean, adventures and some very soulful music."
Q: How have you been uplifted by each other?
Lena - "When we are on our seeking adventures she reminds me not to hold back and tunes me in, playing some diva driven euphoric vocals for the ride. We talk and we listen together. Our favorite two step tracks played over and over. We get excellent thinking done with the right soundtrack. Julie can always predict what I need to hear. The volume is up and the windows are down. Notes appear, glowing for brief seconds and then resubmerging while the bass invades the car and body's interior. It's a good way to take yourself out of the thinking part of things."
Julie - "I met Lena when I was having a really hard time living in Los Angeles. I felt I was lacking community and friends who share similar values. She took me with an open heart, with no judgment and always down for an adventure. My life got so much richer and more exciting when we became friends. I love discovering new things and places with her. I definitely have shared some of the best times of my life with Lena. She’s also been there for me everytime life gets a little difficult. She’s helped me get through break ups, family stuff and just general ups and downs of life."
Avery is wearing our Blu Top and Rabôt Silk Scarf and Bella is wearing our Miller Shirt and Colby Short.
Avery Wheless is a painter living in Los Angeles. She grew up in Petaluma, CA and she has exhibited at Ochi Projects in Sun Valley, Seasons Gallery in Los Angeles, and Superzoom Gallery in Paris. Her work also expands into film and explores the existence of the body and the spaces they exhibit. She is interested in creating a stage on which figures play with the intimate interactions between subjects, and their roles as surveyors and as the surveyed. Wheless has been featured in Rolling Stone, Harpers Bazaar Nylon Spain, Paper, Creators-Vice, Artillery Magazine, and Flaunt as well as other publications.
Bella (she/they) is an independent filmmaker and co-founder of Peter Pictures, a female-led full service creative house. As an actor, screenwriter, creative director, and journalist, her work has appeared places such as Apple TV, Playboy, Flaunt, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. She finds herself pulled to the strange, the wonderful, and the true.
Q: What inspires you about each other?
Avery - "Bella inspires me because she has an acute sensitivity, which she brings into her work and interactions with others. Bella never fails to pick up on little details that inform so much, and most people miss. They know how to listen, observe and then translate that into another form for her audience through her film and writing. Bella’s curious and empathic energy is contagious. She makes me feel seen and cared for. Bella moves through the world with a confidence that made me want to be their friend from the moment I met her on the dance floor at a party on the fourth of July."
Bella - "Sitting down to write this I’m overwhelmed by the sheer number of things about Avery that inspire me. She is an extraordinary artist and an extraordinary person. Avery doesn’t approach her dreams as an unreachable destination or some place where you’ve gotta step on others to arrive. Instead, she works hard, is kind, and shows up for people. She really trusts in the universe and the timing of the universe. She has faith that doing what she loves to do will take her where she wants to go. It’s fucking awesome and I’m trying to learn this from her. "
Q: How have you been uplifted by each other??
Avery - "Bella uplifts me with her honesty. I can trust her with my hopes and fears without worry of feeling judged or the notion of oversharing or burdening. We support and hold each other in a space where we are uplifted to create, explore and make mistakes. Bella is someone I forever want to dance through life with."
Bella - "I hope everyone can find someone like Avery. From the oranges she drops outside my door, to the late-night “I’m so proud of you!” texts, giving me her apartment key so I can write in solace… Avery sees me and I think feeling genuinely seen on a consistent basis is one of the most uplifting feelings in the world."

Ananas Ananas is a food-art studio founded by Verónica González and Elena Petrossian. Their work focuses on creating edible installations and dining experiences that encourage their audience to interact with food in a multi-sensory and experimental way. These experiences are intentionally temporary, meant to be enjoyed mindfully and to facilitate intimately present moments.
The art studio is deeply committed to rethinking food production systems and highlighting real, meaningful actions against food waste. While deconstructing the fine dining space, the duo seeks to connect and immerse the audience on individual and collective level in the food they eat. Since 2019, they have creative directed dining experiences and installations for artistic and commercial purposes.
Q: What inspires you about each other?
Elena - "I’m inspired by how hard Verónica works and no matter the circumstance will get shit done without complaint, even if I’m complaining. Im uplifted by her because she has taught me patience and not to freak out if we hit a roadblock, that everything always works out because we have to trust ourselves and each other. I think that’s the most difficult part of a partnership, to let go and trust the other, but I’m grateful to have Verónica as the other half of Ananas Ananas because she’s made that easy."
Verónica - "The admiration I have for Elena is the reason why i never questioned to stop doing Ananas Ananas since day one. She constantly teaches me certainty about sharing what you believe in and not being afraid of putting yourself out there while growing up your business. She makes all this sound like a dream and it’s been like that so far."
